001 | BMSK presents PSIRI

Athenian DJ / Producer BMSK has been in the game for just over a decade, spinning tunes all over the city and beyond since 2004.
In 2007 he took over Astron Bar in Psiri and turned this small intimate space into one of this city’s leading techno clubs, often hosting local and international guest DJs.
BMSK, who has been producing his own music for the last five years and recently played at Tresor in Berlin, and is one of very few DJs that continue to spin with vinyl.

1. How would you describe the electronic music scene in Athens & which other Athenian DJs / producers do you admire?
There is some salt in the scene lately!
In the last few years Athens has seen an increase in the number of events, parties and festivals that are focussed in the right direction!
There are a lot of new artists and labels emerging, which is giving the scene a strong boost and a fresh and interesting perspective.
I’m really enjoying labels as Modal Analysis, Lower Parts, Nous and soon Analogue records.
Artists that I admire include Sawf, Morah, Anfs, Miltiades, Kondaktor and A.Metz to name a few.

2. What frustrates you about this city?
Way too many things to mention.

3. Where do you go or what do you do when you feel the need to be inspired?
Being inspired is an every day thing for me but I believe what you really need in this business is hard work and lots of hours dedicated to doing what you love while also trying to keep it real.

4. Where is the best place to go for a drink in Athens?
It doesn’t exist yet.

5. What is your favourite Metro stop in Athens and why?
I like Victoria Station, it’s not really a metro station as it’s on the green line, but it reminds me of Berlin a lot.

6. How would you describe this mix?
It has an industrial aesthetic with tracks by some of my favourite artists like Ancient Methods, Silent Servant, Adam X, Sendai and Kangding Ray.
